Fifteen years is a long time to hold down a corner in Lower Lonsdale, especially one right between the SeaBus terminal and Lonsdale Quay where the old shipbuilders once worked. Shipyards Coffee at 123 Carrie Cates Court has become part of the daily rhythm for commuters crossing Burrard Inlet and locals tackling the Spirit Trail before the workday begins. The shop opens at seven on weekdays and nine on weekends, closing only for a few statutory holidays each year, which makes it a reliable stop when the morning fog rolls off the water and you need warmth before heading out.
The coffee program drives everything here, with six single-origin and signature roasts available by the bag for home brewing, including Rainforest Organic, Peru Organic Norte, Marine Roast, Colombia Supremo, Signature Espresso, and El Paraiso Organic from Guatemala. Those same beans fuel the drip and espresso drinks behind the bar, while the kitchen bakes croissants and cookies in house daily for a quick pairing. Counter seating faces the front window, gift cards and whole beans line the retail shelf, and seasonal favorites rotate through the chalkboard as green coffees change. It serves as a practical rest point between the Polygon Gallery and the waterfront playground, keeping music low and lines moving during the rush so you can order at the bar, linger briefly, and get back to the Quay or your next destination without fuss.
