Shipyards Coffee

The corner unit at 123 Carrie Cates Court sits right at the heart of Lower Lonsdale's Shipyard District, the redeveloped industrial waterfront between Lonsdale Quay and the SeaBus terminal where the North Shore's old shipbuilders once worked. Shipyards Coffee has been serving that neighbourhood for more than fifteen years, holding down a regular morning crowd of commuters, Seabus riders, and locals walking the Spirit Trail before work. The cafe stays open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays, with the door closing only on a handful of stat days throughout the year.

Shipyards Coffee keeps the format simple and welcoming. Counter seating lines the front window, gift cards and whole bean bags sit on the retail shelf, and the seasonal favourites rotate through the chalkboard a few times a year as green coffees come and go. The shop doubles as a useful rest stop between the Lonsdale Quay market, the Polygon Gallery, and the waterfront playground, and the team keeps the music low and the lines moving at the morning rush. Online ordering is light, so most visitors still walk in, order at the bar, and stay a few minutes before heading back out onto the Quay or catching the next SeaBus across Burrard Inlet into downtown Vancouver.
