Halloween Ideas and Events in North Vancouver

Between the City and the District, North Vancouver has a full Halloween: a free waterfront afternoon at the Shipyards, a business trick-or-treat in Lower Lonsdale, a village trick-or-treat in Lynn Valley, and a suspension-bridge park that runs its Halloween event for most of October. The City and the District are different municipalities with genuinely different rules, and the difference matters on the one night of the year when people are outside in the dark setting things off.

Shipyards District Trick-or-Treat

Halloween afternoon at the waterfront is two separate events that run back to back. The City of North Vancouver's Halloween at The Shipyards runs on Saturday, October 31, from noon to 4pm, free, with games, a DJ, a magic show, crafts, library storytelling and the Vancouver Circus School — it is listed on the City's community events calendar.

Then the Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Association runs its Halloween trick-or-treat through the Shipyards District from 3 to 5pm, also free. Forty-three businesses are taking part, marked with black and orange balloons, with live music, zombie flash-mob dancers and free Lonsdale GhostCart rides along the way. It is a good option for younger kids who want a compact route with a lot of stops close together, and it finishes before dark — so if you are planning something else, that has to be in the evening.

Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park's Canyon Frights runs October 9 through November 1, 2026, and it is included with regular park admission. The park is open from 10am to 8pm, and until 9pm on October 23–25 and October 30 to November 1. It is the kind of place that does a themed evening properly — the bridge, the cliffs and the forest setting are doing most of the atmospheric work, and it is a different proposition from a fairground haunted house.

Canyon Frights runs October 9 to November 1, 2026 inside regular Capilano Suspension Bridge Park admission, so it is a day out rather than a separate ticketed evening.

It also works for a range of ages: older kids get the themed evening, and younger ones get a suspension bridge over a canyon, which is a better draw than most haunted houses manage.

More Halloween events on the North Shore

In the District, the North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission runs a Halloween Spooktacular in Lynn Valley Village, 1277 Lynn Valley Road, on Saturday, October 31, 3 to 5pm. Grouse Mountain's Coola's Pumpkin Smash is the same day, with games from noon to 3pm and the smash at 1pm, included with admission.

In the City, MONOVA's Ghostly Galleries run on October 24 and 25, 5:30 to 7:30pm, included with museum admission (adult $17, senior $14, youth 6-17 $12, 5 and under free, family $42), at 115 West Esplanade. Presentation House Theatre has a Nightmare Before Christmas singalong on October 24 at 2pm and 7pm. For adults, the Polygon Gallery holds a Halloween party on October 31, 8pm to 1am, 19 and over, with tickets from $50. And on Sunday, November 1, the City fire hall at 165 East 13th Street holds its Pumpkin Drop from 10am to 4pm, by donation.

Loutet Farm, the City's community urban farm run with the Edible Garden Project, holds its Saturday market from 10am to 1pm through the end of October — small and genuinely local.

Fireworks rules and safety

This is the part that catches people out here. The City of North Vancouver bans the sale, purchase, possession and discharge of fireworks; only public displays permitted by the Fire Chief are allowed, and fines run up to $500, or $10,000 on conviction. See the City's Halloween fire safety page.

The District allows fireworks only with a $10 permit, bought online from October 25 to 31, and only on Halloween night between 6 and 10pm. You must be 19 or older, and only on private property in the District with the owner's permission. If part of your household is in the District and part in the City, both answers are correct — which is exactly the sort of thing worth checking before anyone loads the car with sparklers.

Beyond that the standard applies: reflective gear, crosswalks rather than crossing between parked cars, an adult with the younger children, and checking anything unwrapped before it is eaten. It rains properly on the North Shore in late October, so a waterproof layer is the practical item people forget.

What Is Not Happening

There is no pumpkin patch or corn maze in either North Vancouver, and no city-wide trick-or-treat hour. Fireworks are not allowed in the City at all, and in the District only with a permit on Halloween night.
